Crisis at the yarn store

We had a disaster at work on Sunday. When I came water was pouring (excuse me, spurting) out of a fan in the ceiling! The fan was in the bathroom, and it looked like something had exploded in there. Water went all over the floor of the back of the shop as well, though most of the yarn is up high enough of the floor on the bottom shelves to keep them from getting damaged. Our poor owner had to come in from vacation, along with all THREE landlords/owners of the building. The pipe was repaired eventually, but not after the people who live above our shop put water down the drain (after being told to NOT run the water, twice!), dousing one of the plumbers pretty thoroughly, never mind spraying another sink full of water all over. Again.

All the excitement of having water going everywhere and plumbers taking out chunks of ceiling meant I didn't get as much work done on the vest I am working on as a shop sample, but I am now up to just past the armhole opennings. The pattern is from Sweaters from Camp.

I've been doing quite a bit of dyeing of pastel colors this last week, and spinning lots of muted colors. Pretty much the opposite of the colorful mood I have been in! This particular one is 100% wool. No surprise there, huh?

A did get quite a few (6? 8?) skeins of a 2 ply gold toned yarn with rusty and pink tones spun up. Spinning has been difficult lately because the cat demands to sit right in the center of my lap. He does the same thing with computers, insisting on sitting across BOTH of you arms and half of the laptop's keyboard as well, just for good measure.

I am already so burned out with this quarter. It won't be hard, just very very time intensive, and added to it making sure to have everything set up so I can graduate. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though! I got in to the paralegal program here for the fall!

Caught in the act1

Caught in the act! As per usual of course! He still shows no interest in the fish, thank goodness! Still fluffy as ever (and shedding like crazy!)

My roses are finally wilting. I'm hoping they will last a couple more days at least in a bowl.

I got a new Cascade spindle. It's nice and refreshing to be able to spin just a little bit of a fiber (the spindle is under .6 ounces) nice and fine, perfect for a two ply sock yarn. It's a nice break from the usual production spinning I've been doing.

Reason #282939494943 subset j that I am not allowed near illustrator (the program).

I have just spent hours drawing sheep and giving them little, flirtsy expressions. In pink. Now, I love pink, especially in that really vintage pink shade kind of way, but there was wayyyy too much pink going on here.

Anywho, I changed my logo to the quirky little sheep I was drawing. I was going to inrorporate a star, but it looked too busy when I tried. I want it to look more like a stamp (cause let's face it, wouldn't it be a cute stamp? Maybe not with "Midnightsky Fibers" Emblazoned on the middle of the fleece, but you hopefully know where I am going with this...

If you click on the logo above it will take you to the current version, which is probably gray if you are reading this sometime in the 12 hours after this is published because me and illustrator are going to go have WORDS now. I'm not happy with the text size or shape- and am considering just forgoing any text but Midnightsky Fibers, but who knows. Maybe by tomorrow morning I will have decided to upload my usual logo back.

New Cancer Center...O, and new dishes too!

In really cool news, there will be a new cancer center in Everett opening soon (read about it here. It's going to be paperless, and of course very high tech- just look at the list of technology at the end of the article- pretty much all new machines (the rest they are moving over in stages from what I understand). Not something I would normally mention on my blog, but since my dad is part of the partnership, it ranks under the "pretty darn cool" category in my book.

New vase! With flowers from my mom's garden- not the roses in the background though!

Organic granola (and milk of course)- coconut almond, from Tall Grass Bakery. I'm pretty sure they are in Ballard.

Biscuits- also organic, 'cept the baking powder! With a drizzle of Moon Valley raw honey on top- more flavorful by far than any honey you buy in the supermarket. MM. Perfect mid morning lunch!

Catch the new dishes and flatware? I'll have to talk some day about how obsessed I am with Pottery Barn and the like.

End of School...for now!

School is out for now! There have been birthday dinners and Pho making, and meeting ups for lunches.

...and lots of filling orders. The cat was rather worried that yarn would be taking over the house. The yarn almost threatened a revolt, but then it was all packaged up and sent off to it's new homes!

It's really quite amazing how much SPACE yarn takes up. Nevermind the fiber.

A pile of packages waiting to come with me to the Post Office since they are all going oversees. Can we say a collective OUCH for the new shipping costs?

Lot's of yummy new produce and foods from PO.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
PO added a bunch of new bakery items to their store. I can see that this is going to be delicious- and o so dangerous!

BLOSSOM

Blossom top in Hempathy yarn (both by E. Lavold). Sad thing is, it fits me (sorry, it was see through though when I tried it on before hanging it up and I don't want *those* pictures on the internet!)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
A close-er up picture. If you make anything with the Hempathy PLEASE remember to check the yardage- many patterns for the yarn came out (like the new book for Hempathy) when the yarn was going to have more yardage, so you actually need more skeins of yarn- this took 6 or so instead of the suggested 4(?)

A weeks worth of knitting

Colorwork vest...well, it continues. It is just a little too big for me, but that is ok since it isn't for me anyways! Can you see where I chopped the steek to get rid of a twist?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Up close. Spindthrift Shetland is a great yarn to work with for colorwork. I chose nice, tweedy colors that really blend in to each other. The contrast in them doesn't really show the differences in color quite right though. I wish this vest was for me!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Peeking at some ends. In colorwork, I carry the ends behind when I switch colors so I don't have to weave them in. If it was for me I would just let them be and sew them when sewing the steek, but since people tug on it at the shop that might be a bad idea!

Sale extended

Sale has been extended until the 12th...I had an emil glitch on my hosts side that prevented me from getting emails from people asking questions etc, so I want to give people a chance to order that I didn't get to answer as soon as I would have liked (sorry about that! Can't really prevent the hackers!) If you sent me an email or ordered I DID get the email or order, o not to worry!

Cat litter

The people right across the way from me have a cat who has been sitting out on their balcony all day today. Joey has been glued to the window watching the cat and the birds on the apartment roof next door. He's been chasing a fly for the last half hour and meowing at ME expecting ME to give it to him.

Speaking of, I am currently using an organic cat litter- paper based, flushable, biodegradable, etc. BUT, I feel like it is still dusty and OMG it tracks everywhere. Joey is of course quite furry, with furry little toes, and I don't like him jumping up on me and covering me in cat litter. EWW. I am out of ideas though as to what won't track- past Yesterdays News, it seems like most of the other litters would either not cover up the smell well or would track just as badly. Ideas?

(as I wrote this he ate the fly. Thanks cat for grossing me out, you could have at least not eaten it a foot from me!)

Avoidance

This is what happens instead of studying for a final:

So, I logged in to my site today to recheck the check out process, wondering why no one ever used the CC option. I discovered two things:

1.) That the shipping modules for several options had magically (read: I managed to switch them and not realize they would no longer work) disappeared and only the table rate was left. Not a huge biggie, but kind of helpful for people to have more than one option.

And

2.) The checkout has CC and paypal options. Only...the pictures for the CC's said "my card" like...8 times. So I go to the template to delete them. Only they don't disappear. Well, crap. Where the hell else are they? Go re look at images, find out they are ALSO in ANOTHER template, delete. Gone. Upload single file this time depicting all the CC I take. Will fix it later to be a rectangle and not square. Proceed to feel proud of myself for beating my template once again.

In the name of also avoiding studying, more plants have been gained. There are now two type of mint, tarragon, lavender, lemon balm, and oregano. I used mugs to pot them, and ended up putting most of them in my kitchen window where they are more likely to get more sun.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Tatting, lots and lots of little motifs and other somewhat pointless but fun little things to make. This type of thing always reminds me of Posie.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Lots of cooking! I'm trying to be really good about eating organic, so these cookies are totally organic. Yum. They are kind of hard to eat with braces though. I've had to start carrying a pocketknife (one of my really large ones, so there!) so I can slice my apples and pears. I used to carry a pocketknife all the time but stopped when I had to go through metal detectors all the time.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
And finally, I have been spending lots of quality time with the cat, and trying to keep him from eating my icecream or corn (sadly cut off the cob) when I get up. Zeblith finally met the cat yesterday when we headed up to my place before a stirfry-cooking-dilbert-watching-avoiding-study-fest. (Zeblith and Neptune also don't study for finals)
